On this week’s ‘Getting to Know’, I’m speaking to two motivated and inspiring young men, who are making changes in the lives of young people in Croydon through their recently launched social enterprise, Justified Kings.
Names: Jason Simms-Davis and Kyle Hylton
Ages: Both 24
Live in: Thornton Heath
Occupation: Youth Mentors from Primary School upwards
Q: How did the idea of Justified Kings come about?
A: Justified Kings came about through us realising there is a real lack of identity amongst young adults within the urban communities. We believe this stems from both a shortage of knowledge and awareness.
Q: What is the best thing about running a social enterprise?
A: For us the best thing is the feeling of fulfilment that we get from helping and inspiring young adults, and the love and support we have been getting in return.
Q: What do you think makes Justified Kings special?
A: The level of empathy and understanding that we have for the young adults from the urban communities.
Q: What is your favourite thing about Croydon?
A: The diversity of people which adds to the overall energy of Croydon.
Q: What do you think could be improved about Croydon?
A: More projects tailored towards developing the life skills of the young people, as they are the future.
Q: What is Croydon's best kept secret?
Us (lol)…also Project B. It’s a great venue with an amazing vibe.
Q: Where is your favourite place to eat in Croydon?
A: Grill shack in Thornton Heath. It's a healthier option in comparison to many of the fast food restaurants out there.
Q: What events in Croydon would you recommend?
A: ‘FRESH’ – every last Friday of the month at Project B and Croydon Tech City.
Q: Describe Croydon in 3 words.
A: Vibrant, diverse and emerging.
Q: Who would you recommend for a Just Croydon interview?
A: Ashley, the founder of ‘The Future of Croydon’. He’s very much involved with what’s happening in Croydon right now.
