Doctor Slideshow at Croydon Folk Club on Monday Night, 28th October, 8:15
15-Jul-2019 17:12

Doctor Slideshow are a post modern medicine show, featuring Slideshow Steve on vocals and stringed things and Dr Ess on percussion and harmonicas.

They create a collage of original songs, covers and tunes from anywhere and everywhere, on a fabulous array of musical instruments.

Dr Ess started as a drummer and percussionist for every shade of music from classical, through jazz, rock, pop, folk to beyond. He appears to attempt to play a range of harmonicas, birdee whistle, train whistle, jaw harp and percussion, including cajon, sidekick, heckstick snare drum, foot percussion, sock cymbal low boy, djembe, bongos, bodhran, bones, zydeco scrub board, washboard, cajun tee-fer, horse shoe, shakers, rattlers and rollers, at the same time. All this while wearing a fetching range of Trilby hats.

In an alternate reality Dr Ess is osteopath Stephen Beaver.

Originally, Slideshow Steve Van-Deller was a soul bass player before moving to guitar.

He was also a closet Incredible String Band fan and this seed grew into Doctor Slideshow.

Along the way Slide has played blues, folk, rockabilly, country, reggae, power pop, world music, toyed with jazz and, he had his own jug and bluegrass band.

His instruments include mandolin, puerto-rican cuatro, tenor banjo, tiple, ukulele, baritone ukulele, charango, banjo-mandolin, lap steel, all types of guitar, including tenor guitar, fife, melodica, keyboards and vocals.

He is a prolific songwriter.
