The crazy golf course has always proved to be of interest to artists, designers and creative groups because of its simple functionality: being that all the player has to be able to do is hit the ball into the hole. This provides countless opportunities for the creators to produce highly ambitious holes, with turrets, mounds and any other follies. This year the artists are taking this concept one step further, some of which are taking the traditional principles of the crazy golf format and re examining it. What criticality could the crazy golf course offer aside from having fun? This is the question that Putt Putt #2 proposes.
Putt Putt #2 is an exhibition of newly commissioned work that takes the form of a crazy golf course. Located in the heart of Croydon, the exhibition brings together artists from across the country to provide a critical and accessible approach to contemporary art practice.
The exhibition follows on from the success of its predecessor Putt Putt, which was held in Exchange Square, Croydon in 2013. The most recent incarnation is now based in a new location that offers the artists and the public a new challenge, thus producing more ambitious results.
The holes will be constructed using a variety of materials including marine plywood, pulped cardboard, concrete and glass, to produce a stunning backdrop to the traditional game of crazy golf.
Throughout Putt Putt #2 there will be family friendly workshops and events dedicated to fostering team building and networking amongst Croydon's businesses and artists.
