Volunteering at the Warehouse Theatre

With the planned reopening of the Warehouse Theatre at Croydon Town Hall I can recall volunteering at the original Warehouse Theatre on Dingwall Road.

While I was at university I tried looking for a part time or weekend job like everyone else. I tried all over Croydon, but the only place to give me a positive response was the Warehouse Theatre which was located on Dingwall Road, at the time. Volunteers were needed to sell programmes and ice cream before the show and during the interval with a tiny expense allowance of £2 to £3. We were even given one or two free tickets.

I also started to help out with the Marketing Department if I was free during the day which usually involved putting together publicity packs to send out. The Manager at the time gave me a reference when I applied for a  job at the British Museum. I had very little experience with theatre before then but  when I finished university I joined local theatre group Exit.
