Tran McGillivray and Mike Burke at Croydon Folk Club on Monday Night, 30th September, 8:15
15-Jul-2019 17:05

Fran McGillivray (vocals, bass guitar) and Mike Burke (acoustic, electric & resonator guitars, mandola, mandolin, vocals) are former founder members of the legendary urban blues outfit So Long Angel.

Their own vibrant and original songs are complemented by soulful, dynamic and powerful interpretations of songs from a broad range of genres - from Americana through Country to Blues.

After years spent in honing their craft, their set features their unique take on songs by Little Walter, Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon and some of the great women of the blues, including Bessie Smith, Big Momma Thornton, Etta James and Memphis Minnie, all sung in their own distinctive sound with lots of scope for dynamics, interplay and rhythmic improvisation.

As well as performing at major festivals in Europe and the UK, Fran and Mike are regulars on the club and concert circuit, and on BBC and local music radio shows.

They have recorded four CDs - the latest is ‘Midnight Call’.
