Odette Michell is an English Folk Singer - Songwriter with a dynamic new take on the acoustic tradition and a voice capable of demonstrating the finer points of both folk and traditional song with genuine craftsmanship.
Her vocal style has been described as "warm, intelligent and sitting comfortably amidst folk guitar in a timeless songwriting style" - and as similar to the likes of Sandy Denny, Lucinda Williams and Joni Mitchell.
Born in Yorkshire to an accomplished singer and pianist of Irish heritage, it comes as no surprise that Odette took an interest in music from an early age.
Exchanging piano for guitar at the age of fifteen, Odette became inspired by the resurgence of folk and acoustic singer - songwriters and began writing her own songs when she was just sixteen years old.
Growing up in Cambridge allowed Odette to take advantage of the many stages and performance venues there.
She has performed at two club stage performances at the Cambridge Folk Festival - her first appearance there was when she was 22 years old.
Now based in the Herefordshire countryside, Odette's musical journey is moving very quickly.
Her debut EP 'By Way of Night', released in March last year, garnered positive reviews, receiving several plays nationally and internationally on both mainstream radio and folk radio stations.
".... this voice will stay with you. There’s a warm sincerity to the interpretation of the songs, a heartfelt involvement that beckons the listener" Charlie Elland, FolkWords
