The Churchfitters at Croydon Folk Club, Monday 11th March, 8:15

The Churchfitters is a folk band like no other. A double bass made out of a saucepan. Heart-wrenching vocals accompanied by a musical saw. Foot-stompingly fast fiddle mixed with infectious funk-rock rhythms. And traditional tunes reinvigorated with mesmerising jazz sax.

The four virtuoso musicians from England and France strut their stuff on a stage bristling with instruments, 'normal' and 'eccentric', The latter include a bass made from a Mercedes Benz hub cap, a handsaw and a Bing Bong machine made from jig saw blades.

Londoner Rosie Short: at home singing husky blues, plaintive femme folk, or ethereal originals.Chris Short: a feverishly fast fiddler who also plays sensitively slowly, a humorous raconteur. The drumming of Margaux Scherer (Jura, France) is second to none.Bass player, Boris Lebret (Lannion, France) won't play a regular instrument when he can make a better one out of scrap metal (but not just any old scrap metal – Mercedes Benz, s'il vous plaît).

In addition to traditional folk music, The Churchfitters produce their own songs.Throw in some exquisite harmonies and a few jokes that create instant rapport and you’ve got a high energy show that always leaves audiences cheering.

A great show for all the family.
